9 Reasons Why Wales is a Better Place to Live than England.

Updated: Feb 24

Wales is a beautiful country with a distinct culture and traditions. It is well known for the valleys and mountains as well as the village with the really long name. With Rugby Union seen as a symbol of Welsh identity and Saturday’s match fast approaching; here are 9 reasons why Wales is a better place to live than England.

In the late 13th Century, King Edward conquered the western principality of Wales to claim it as English, since then, the 19th century has given us rugby and an annual opportunity for us patriotic Welsh to fight for our country (and more) each time we meet England on a rugby pitch! But this is not a blog about the rugby; it’s about homes and property. So let’s compare Wales versus England as places to live.

1. Friendly People

People are friendlier in Wales without a doubt. Also, the Welsh have a great sense of humour and don’t take themselves too seriously. Although this can change on match day if England win!

2. Cheaper Homes

Property is a lot cheaper and more affordable in Wales, also we don’t move as often as the rest of the UK (clearly we are happy to stay in Wales).

3. Beautiful scenery.

Wales has over 150 beaches as well as 26% of the country designated as a National Park of Area of Outstanding Beauty. You don’t have to travel too far to reach the country, beach or city.

4. Walking on the Beach

Want to feel the sand on your toes? Wales is the only country in the world with a national walking trail which follows all 870 miles of its entire coastline (Wales Coastal Path). To find out more about the path click here

5. Castles.

With more than 600 castles in Wales, there are more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the world.

6. Famous People

We have the singing legend Sir Tom Jones as well as Bryn Terfel, Shirley Bassey, Katherine Jenkins, Bonnie Tyler, Stereophonics and the Manic Street Preachers. Famous actors include Michael Sheen, Ioan Gruffudd and Joanna Page. Of course, we can't forget about Gareth Bale or my personal favourite Roald Dahl!

7. Zip Line

North Wales is the zip line capital of the world. Set in Penrhyn Quarry you can fly 500m above the quarry lake. Check it out here.

Wales 1 v England 0

8. Free Prescriptions

Prescriptions are free through the NHS in Wales, in England you have to pay £9.15 for each medicine!

Wales 1 v England 0

9. Cheaper Pint

Pints are cheaper in Wales. Need I say anymore?

Wales 1 v England 0

10. Weather

Wales is known for the pouring rain, the weather is better in England.

Wales 0 v England 1

As we can all see, with 9 points to 1, Wales is the clear winner.

Enjoy the match on Saturday, there is a positive: we won’t have to hear the English singing ‘swing low’. But remember, whatever the score, Wales will always be the clear winner.
