Ideas on How to Improve Your Home and Get Summer Ready!

Following on from my Spring Cleaning post, now that you have the space, lets look at some ideas on improving your home for the summer! This winter has dragged out, even more so because we couldn't celebrate Christmas for the whole month of December or see the back of 2020 with a party. I feel like I have had the January blues for 3 months now! But now the sun shines more often, the nights are getting lighter and the warmer weather is on its way so it's time to think about opening up the house and getting our home summer ready!

Lets start with the outside of the home.

Chop those trees down and trim your hedges!

Chop the trees that stop the sunshine getting in and tidy up overgrown hedges. You can even stock up on logs for your outdoor chimenea for those cooler summer evenings. Cardiff Tree Surgery are based in North Cardiff and their tree surgeons offer an expert and comprehensive service for all aspects of tree work from felling to hedge maintenance. Contact them for a free quotation, advice on conservation areas and tree preservation orders. They even recycle their waste responsibly.

Brighten up Your Windows and Doors

Bespoke Spray offer both an on and off site Spraying Service specialising in all aspects of interior and exterior spraying. From UPVC to kitchens, furniture and cabinetry. Is the outside of your house looking tired? I love the idea of spraying your UPVC windows and updating the colour to look modern. Like the home below, the grey gives the house a contemporary feel and in my opinion looks so much better than the white! Freshen up garage doors and matching exterior wood. This would normally mean taking a week off work! I love how a kitchen can be given a whole new look by painting the doors. No one needs the expense of a brand new kitchen anymore!

Take a Walk on The Wild Side

As you walk into your home, create a stunning hallway and start as you mean to go on with beautiful flooring throughout the house. These were one of the first companies I followed on Instagram as the record floor caught my eye! Epoxy resin is amazing, I want to have a go but I am a messy worker; For example every time I use gold leaf the cat ends up gold and I'm hoovering the stuff up weeks later, so god knows what would happen if I used epoxy. Anyhow, I digress. How cool is this record floor? The marble effects you can create are stunning too. No one floor will ever be the same. Also how fab are these kitchen worktops? Easy cleaning is a bonus too!

Paper or Paint

Lets talk walls. Want something a little different? Then there are some amazing wallpapers out there at the moment and I just love these three designs. First picture is using Morris and Co wallpaper, I just love this Arts and Crafts style and I also ADORE that door with its stained glass window. For something a little more expensive how about this Versace paper, and how lush is the dark ceiling? Fancy something bright and bold? This is Cole and Son Prism wallpaper, which matches very well with the mid century sideboard! Thornhill decorators can do everything from plaster the walls, painting and decorating, wallpapering and even project managing. Contact them for advice.

Change your soft furnishings

If you are content with the look of you home but just like to change the soft furnishings and brighten up with a few cushions then how about replacing the velvet, fluffy and dark colours with some summer fresh bright cushions, or mid century modern inspired textiles and accessories. Cant get to France this year, then bring France to you with this French contemporary range. Check out Helyn's Etsy store to see her other gorgeous textiles.

Add some greenery to all your rooms

The Little Green Corner are a small business providing plants & flowers for your home. They even deliver straight to your doorstep, making things quick, stress free & safe for you. I've noticed that Plants seem to have overtaken as the new thing to buy and look after during lockdown. Lots of my friends have become obsessed with their plants! Less stress than a cat or dog I guess! I am a massive fan of having greenery in the house in every room, to counteract all the negative energy created by Wi-fi and the TV being on all day every day! These plants are perfect as they aren't high maintenance. I love the little heart shape and the gorgeous colours of these succulents in grey ceramic pots, £11.50 each. Want to restore a little peace in your household, then what about this peace lily £18.99 (comes with pot).

A love these vases and how lush is pampus grass. Amour have some amazing rainbow colour grass coming soon. Check out her Instagram for sneek peek!

The Colour Collection

Wow! Sometimes all you need is a little colour in your life and these candles, reed diffusers and wax melts certainly provide that. If they don't scream summer I don't know what does! How lush are these? Katy started this business in lockdown, building a brand that is bold and bright, cheerful and radiates positivity. They are also eco, vegan friendly and cruelty free. He has been an upholsterer for 43 years and as well as giving old chairs a new lease of life, he has designed leather sofas and art deco chairs. It's all bl**dy amazing!! A Room Out Back

As many of us may not be able to go on holiday again this year, or perhaps you have decided you actually quite like being at home, how about investing in a cabin for your garden. These can be adapted and used as anything, from a home gym to an office or even as a spa to chill out in. In winter you can cwtch up with a book and a cuppa or glass of red wine watching the seasons change. In summer these would be great to carry on the party in the cooler evenings! They are also a room away from the house to escape the kids and partner! Bespoke Cabins offer a selection of luxury, bespoke cabins which are contemporary in design and can be tailored to meet your individual needs.
